2026 MIFF Awards Gala
Filipino Cinema Shines at the 2026 MIFF Awards Gala
The Manila International Film Festival celebrated excellence, heritage and global Filipino talent during a glamorous closing-night celebration at The Beverly Hilton.
Beverly Hills welcomed the brilliance of Philippine and Filipino American cinema as the 2026 Manila International Film Festival concluded with its elegant Awards Gala at The Beverly Hilton on Sunday, September 6.
The prestigious evening marked the finale of MIFF’s third annual festival, which ran from September 3 through September 6. Following four days of movie premieres, filmmaker conversations, workshops and industry panels at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre, guests gathered for an unforgettable night dedicated to cinematic achievement and Filipino excellence.
The celebration began with a glamorous red-carpet reception, where actors, filmmakers, producers, community leaders and distinguished guests arrived in sophisticated evening attire. A VIP cocktail reception and formal dinner followed before the awards ceremony began inside The Beverly Hilton’s celebrated ballroom.
A Historic Honor for Lea Salonga
One of the evening’s most memorable moments was the presentation of the inaugural MIFF Icon Award to internationally acclaimed actress and singer Lea Salonga.
Salonga’s extraordinary career has brought Filipino talent to audiences around the world. She became internationally recognized through her Tony Award-winning performance as Kim in Miss Saigon and later became beloved as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan.
The tribute carried even greater meaning because it followed another historic milestone: Salonga became the first Filipina to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her MIFF honor celebrated a career that has broken barriers while creating opportunities and inspiration for generations of Filipino and Asian performers.
Celebrating the Year’s Outstanding Performances
The gala also recognized remarkable achievements across the festival’s diverse cinematic program.
Jericho Rosales received the Best Actor award for his commanding title performance in the historical drama Quezon. Ashtine Olviga earned Best Actress for her compelling portrayal of Agnes in Manila’s Finest, which was also honored as the festival’s Best Picture narrative winner.
These awards reflected MIFF’s commitment to recognizing stories that are deeply connected to Filipino history, identity and contemporary life while possessing the emotional power to reach international audiences.
The late Nora Aunor, National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, and the late Pilita Corrales, affectionately remembered as “Asia’s Queen of Songs,” received posthumous MIFF Lifetime Achievement Awards. Actress Janine Gutierrez accepted the honors on behalf of their families, creating a moving connection between generations of Filipino artistry.
Honoring Trailblazers and Creative Families
The evening recognized artists whose work continues to expand Filipino representation throughout entertainment.
Joel Crawford and Januel P. Mercado, the writers and directors of DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island, received MIFF Trailblazer Awards alongside members of the film’s voice cast. Pioneering actress BarBara Luna and entrepreneur Priscilla Hunt were also celebrated with Trailblazer honors.
Jon Jon, Megan, Isa and Teo Briones received MIFF’s inaugural Generations Award, recognizing the Briones family’s achievements across theater, television, film and music.
The program was hosted by E! News personality Erin Lim Rhodes, actor and martial artist Mark Dacascos, and Miss Universe 2022 and fashion designer R’Bonney Gabriel.
Bringing Filipino Stories to Hollywood
More than an awards ceremony, the gala represented the continued growth of Philippine cinema on the international stage.
The 2026 festival presented feature films, documentaries and short films reflecting a wide range of Filipino experiences. Its program included the world premiere of Bench: Body of Work, a documentary examining the history and cultural influence of the iconic Filipino lifestyle brand founded by Ben Chan.
The festival also presented filmmaker question-and-answer sessions, animation discussions, professional workshops and opportunities connecting emerging filmmakers with experienced Filipino American entertainment leaders.
Against the glamorous setting of The Beverly Hilton, the MIFF Awards Gala demonstrated the increasing visibility and influence of Filipino filmmakers and performers in Hollywood.
It was an evening that honored the legends who built the foundation, celebrated the artists shaping the present and welcomed a new generation prepared to carry Filipino cinema into the future.
The 2026 Manila International Film Festival closed with a powerful message: Filipino stories belong on the world’s greatest stages—and their moment continues to grow.
